This project is the extension of the previous one which cooperated with 12 volunteering families. [ http://namfonudomlertlak.wordpress.com/category/family-that-dines-together/ ] In order to explore into fractional element of the subject, I constructed three particular procedures in which the expecting outcome would reveal the different reality through this making. Hence, the inquiry of the research is changed and shifted by the making itself which is divided into three months of recording in three different ways, to illustrate to the detail, the first and the second month would be done by one of the family member who take in charge with the mediator position and execute the task that is given from the maker [me]; first month the mediator’s task is to collect the family gathering time by placing the camera in fixed position and the mediator is not allowed to let others member know that they are recorded. The most crucial idea of this first recording period that I expect/ hope is to collect the core of intrinsic reality which is the reaction without the awareness of the camera.
Following this, the second month process would be done in the opposite way in which the presence of the camera would become the core of this recording procedure. The mediator will take in charge as a cameraman which means that he/she has to hold the camera and record his/her family gathering time [now you could draw the image would be like a home video]. The expected result from this exercise is the idea of dishonest reality [or something that lie in between real and unreal] ; to say that the confrontation with the camera would change the natural action and reaction concerning him/herself presenting to the screen, so the awareness of camera would be the main effect that change the acting/ action/ reaction. Moreover, this process might be the ladder for the family members to prepare themselves for the real shooting in the last process.
The third process, last but not least, it is actually my first idea that I had before I started writing this project. It is the process that me as a maker will become an essential part of the family. My plan for this month is to stay over in their house and/ or live with them as the third party/ the observer/ the friend/ the guess. Considering the working method, I intend to frame the image myself in order to create variation of visual concerning the changing situation that would take place when the appearance of camera and maker are placed in daily life. My hypothesis for this process would be the changing of situation, conversation, reaction, action due to the invasion of the third person.
